EDITING

Matthew Yeomans has worked as a senior commissioning editor for both magazines and websites.

Magazines

He was the international editor at The Industry Standard, a leading business and technology weekly magazine, where he coordinated all international news coverage and put together cover packages, features and special reports.

Yeomans was also a senior editor at the Village Voice, the largest alternative weekly in the US. He ran the paper’s 1996 presidential election coverage and he commissioned features on a wide variety of national and international features. Yeomans also worked as the Voice’s legal liaison and ran the paper’s fact-checking department.

As an associate editor at Hachette-Fillapachi, Yeomans edited and packaged magazine content for the custom publishing division.

Online

Yeomans ran the Industry Standard’s online news operation at the peak of the dot.com boom and during its dramatic decline. He managed a team of five news editors in London, New York and San Francisco and coordinated breaking news coverage with the Standard’s 40 print reporters.

He developed in-depth coverage of groundbreaking stories such as Microsoft anti-trust trial and the merger of AOL and Time Warner and he ran online coverage of the 2000 presidential election including Net Election, a weekly online political column written in conjunction with The Washington Post and Slate.

While in charge of the news operation, unique visitors to the Standard.com increased from 250,000 a month to 600,000 a month.

At the Village Voice, Yeomans developed and launched Convention Confidential in 1996, a breakthrough daily website devoted to covering the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

Convention Confidential was a pioneer in online breaking news and successfully incorporated multimedia features such as digital photography, audio feeds and hyperlinks that we now take for granted.
